Virginia Tech tragedies

What a tragedy for our country — for 33 (more or less) people to die in a violent crime at Virginia Tech today.

For whatever reason, this tragedy doesn't seem as real to me as Columbine did several years ago. Maybe watching more news coverage over the next few days will bring the reality of the situation to light for me.

Another thought that has come to mind for me is that 30-something deaths seems like such a high number for the United States in a tragedy, but the number rings close to the casualties we hear about on a daily basis from Iraq.

While our prayers and thoughts should go out to the families and friends of the victims, Rachel and I both feel that we should also pray for the president of the college. Yes, he will receive criticism for the handling of the shootings (between the first and second events), but in such a tragic situation after an initial shooting, your first reaction isn't going to be, "Hey, we should be preparing for another shooting."

Stay tuned...

Hasta pronto.
