A very wet start

I just had someone yesterday at lunch say, "I don't remember having a year start off with so much rain." Well, they hit the nail on the head, according to the National Weather Service:

THROUGH MAY 11TH...ST. LOUIS MISSOURI HAS OBSERVED 22.34 INCHES
OF RAINFALL WHICH IS 9.20 INCHES ABOVE THE NORMAL AMOUNT OF 13.14
INCHES. THIS RANKS AS THE MOST RAINFALL EVER RECORDED BETWEEN
JANUARY 1ST AND MAY 11TH (1870-2008). BELOW IS THE TOP TEN WETTEST
YEARS FOR THIS PERIOD.

1. 22.34 (2008) *
2. 21.12 (1927)
3. 20.91 (1890)
4. 20.70 (1882)
5. 20.59 (1898)
6. 20.43 (1912)
7. 20.30 (1897)
8. 20.12 (1929)
9. 19.86 (1950)
10. 19.85 (1893)

And now I must get off the computer, as severe weather is firing up here in west St. Louis County. Time to unplug the laptop with all the lightning.
